Behind the Scenes: Inspiring Stories from Our Amazing Auditors

At Perry Johnson Registrars (PJR), we take immense pride in our amazing auditors — professionals who demonstrate resilience, dedication, and excellence in every situation. One such remarkable individual is David Savage, whose story is a true testament to perseverance and commitment.

Earlier this year, David experienced a devastating loss when his home was destroyed by a mudslide. Fortunately, no injuries occurred, but the damage was complete. Despite the tragedy, David remained optimistic and resourceful, temporarily relocating with his family to stay with their in-laws before settling into a new home in Forest Hills, California.

In August, while preparing to travel for another PJR audit, David encountered yet another challenge — a new mudslide blocking the only road leading down the mountain. Thanks to the efforts of firefighters, the route was partially cleared, allowing residents to pass safely.

Even amidst these hardships, David’s unwavering dedication to his work never faltered. He continued performing his audit duties without delay, maintaining his commitment to clients and the integrity of the certification process. His perseverance during these trying times exemplifies the professionalism that defines our amazing auditors.

At PJR, we believe our success stems from the hard work and resilience of auditors like David Savage. Their expertise, integrity, and dedication to excellence ensure that our clients continue to receive the highest quality of certification services.

Stories like David’s remind us why we hold our amazing auditors in the highest regard—they are the heart and strength of Perry Johnson Registrars.

Happy Thanksgiving from Perry Johnson Registrars, Inc. (PJR)! Discovering safe travel and cooking practices during the holiday season is crucial for a joyful and accident-free celebration. As Thanksgiving initiates this festive period, here are some essential tips to ensure safety while traveling and cooking.

For those hitting the road, vehicle readiness is key. Prioritize a well-maintained vehicle, rest adequately before driving, and equip an emergency kit. Alongside defensive driving, buckle up every passenger and refrain from distractions like cell phones. If festivities involve alcohol, appoint a sober driver for everyone’s safety.

Cooking, although a cherished tradition, poses fire risks. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, cooking accounts for nearly half of all home fires. To prevent mishaps, install smoke alarms strategically, avoid loose clothing while cooking, and never leave cooking food unattended—especially during frying, grilling, or baking. Engage timers, maintain a three-foot safe zone for kids and pets, and routinely clean surfaces to avert grease buildup.

Prioritizing safety measures during travel and in the kitchen ensures a harmonious and incident-free holiday celebration. Moreover, considering additional safety equipment such as fire extinguishers adds an extra layer of precaution. We encourage everyone to embrace these safety protocols, enhancing the joy of the season while prioritizing well-being. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics disclosed a concerning 7.5% spike in nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses, totaling 2.8 million cases in a recent report. The increase is attributed to a 4.5% rise in injuries, reaching 2.3 million cases, and a significant 26.1% surge in illnesses, totaling 460,700 cases. Notably, respiratory illnesses played a pivotal role, surging by 35.4% to 365,000 cases in the reported period. The transportation and material moving sector witnessed the highest incidence of injuries.

Despite these figures, experts argue that the true extent of the problem is likely underestimated. Employers tend to underreport injuries and illnesses, creating subtle disincentives for workers to disclose health issues. The National Council for Occupational Safety and Health (National COSH) emphasizes the need for systemic changes in addressing workplace safety.

Peter Dooley, a technical support specialist at National COSH, stresses that companies possess the tools and technology to enhance workplace safety. However, a critical challenge lies in building worker power to implement these measures universally. The organization advocates for prioritizing hazard elimination through system-wide engineering and operational changes over reliance on personal protective equipment (PPE), which may offer a false sense of security.

To address these issues comprehensively, National COSH recommends steps such as gathering input directly from workers through surveys and mapping, documenting and tracking health and safety problems, investigating and addressing all issues, providing education programs in a language workers understand, and fostering a feedback loop with workers to showcase improvements.

Join the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) in commemorating World Quality Week from November 6-10, 2023. This global campaign sheds light on the importance of the quality management profession, focusing on the theme of realizing your competitive potential.

While compliance and risk management remain crucial, Perry Johnson Registrars emphasizes that enhancing quality capability extends beyond meeting standards and audits. Quality professionals serve as expert business partners, facilitating the development of quality capability throughout value chains.

To maximize your partnership with a quality professional, consider the following tips:

  1. Prevention is Key: Involve a quality professional from the outset to design value chains, products, and services, mitigating risks before they manifest and avoiding reputational damage and financial waste.
  2. Skills, Tools, and Mindset: Quality professionals can assist with process assessments, but it’s the responsibility of leaders and operators to deliver excellence. Seek the help of a quality practitioner to develop your team’s skills and knowledge.
  3. Think ‘Systems’: Embrace a ‘systems thinking’ view with the help of a quality professional. Foster cross-functional collaboration to enhance workflow efficiency.
  4. Don’t Be Shy: Reach out to your quality professional for advice and support. They are your allies in making work better and creating valuable outcomes for customers and stakeholders.

As we gear up for World Quality Week, we invite individuals, teams, and companies to join this global movement, raising awareness and promoting best practices in quality. Together, let’s make a difference and unlock the full potential of quality in our endeavors. For any other questions, feel free to contact us by phone at (248) 358-3388 or email pjr@pjr.com.
